Solar energy arrives at Leroy Merlin in Funchal

This is the first solar carport for solar energy production on Madeira Island and it is already in operation.

The first Solar Carport in Madeira Island is already operating, producing clean energy for the Leroy Merlin store in Funchal. This structure, in addition to providing protection for the vehicles of customers who visit the space, also produces the clean energy that will feed 42% of the building's energy needs. This photovoltaic installation consisting of 1032 photovoltaic modules, has a power of 345 kWp, an estimated production of 509 MWh, avoiding the annual emission of 209 ton CO2. The entire investment of around €400,000 was made by Helexia, which allows Leroy Merlin to remain focused on its core business.

In the very near future the project will grow with the inclusion of Electric Mobility, through the installation of 2 chargers: 1 fast 50kW and 1 double 2X22kW.

According to João Guerra, Helexia's Marketing and Communication Director in Portugal: "The island of Madeira is moving towards increasing renewables in its energy mix and has the temporal goal within 2 to 3 years, 50% of energy is from renewable sources. In this sense it is important that companies contribute with solar self-consumption helping the necessary energy transition.
