Vygon reduces energy costs by 30% with solar self-consumption for factory and corporate fleet

In partnership with Helexia, VYGON has just installed a solar carport with 10 chargers for electric vehicles.

vygon with solar carport
  • Project integrates solar carport with electric vehicle chargers.
  • A 30% reduction in energy bills and less dependence on the electricity grid.
  • Factory in Portugal is the first of the Vygon group to invest in solar energy.
  • Reduction of CO2 emissions by 235 tons/year.
  • Comfort and protection for employees and visitors in the parking lot.
  • Appreciation of real estate assets.

In partnership with Helexia, Vygon has just installed a solar carport with 10 chargers for electric vehicles. In this way, the clean energy produced powers both the factory and its corporate fleet. At the same time, the plant, which is located in the factory's parking lot, also provides protection and shade for the vehicles of the employees who work there.

The installed capacity of 354 kWp has already enabled Vygon to cut its energy costs by 30%. It has the capacity to produce 500 MWh of clean energy per year and avoids the emission of 235 tons of Co2 per year. Portugal is the group's first investment in solar energy and has served as a pilot project that can be replicated in other countries where the group is present.

This integrated solution between the production of clean energy for the factory and its use for electric mobility was designed to accompany the progressive transition of the fleet to electric vehicles.

"With the project developed, Vygon had the goal of reducing energy costs by 30%, something it has already achieved and we are very proud of the fact that we have spearheaded a project that has now been extended to more of the group's subsidiaries." - Says Nuno Barbosa, CEO of Vygon Portugal.

"Companies are becoming aware of the importance of decarbonizing their activity and this is done by integrating various solutions. This project with Vygon is a clear example of how it is possible to integrate clean energy production and sustainable mobility" - says João Guerra, marketing and communications director at Helexia Portugal.

Decarbonizing the pharmaceutical sector

The pharmaceutical sector, like many other industries, has a significant role to play in decarbonization efforts to combat climate change and help build a low-carbon economy.

This sector has several opportunities in the energy transition: producing clean energy for self-consumption, implementing energy efficiency measures and even migrating the fleet to electric vehicles are all paths that the pharmaceutical sector can take.

Several companies, such as Vygon, are already taking this decarbonization route, setting an example of commitment to sustainability, while at the same time becoming more competitive. Energy costs in this sector are very important to ensure profitability, so being able to have significant savings and predictability in these costs is crucial to promoting competitiveness.
